Education, not investment advice. Stocks can lose value. How we check every number

About ChartWise

An independent education site that teaches you to read a stock page, a company's filings and a price chart, in plain English.

What this site is

ChartWise publishes explainers, a glossary, calculators and company snapshots for people who are new to stocks. We take the numbers you see on a typical stock page, such as market cap, EPS, the P/E ratio, dividend yield and analyst targets, and explain where each one comes from and what it can and cannot tell you.

We do not publish buy or sell calls, price targets, ratings or predictions. We do not run ads and we do not take affiliate commissions. See how we are funded.

Who writes it

Pages are written and checked by the ChartWise editorial desk. Every page goes through two separate steps before it is published: one writer drafts it from our research notes on primary sources, and a different reviewer checks every number, date and rule against the original document.

We would rather show our work than ask for trust. Every figure links to the source it came from, and each page says how many of its sources are primary documents such as SEC and FINRA pages, company filings, exchange rules or official statistics.

Where the data comes from

Company figures come from the annual reports that companies file with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, read from the SEC's public XBRL data. Interest rates come from the U.S. Treasury and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, and exchange rates from the European Central Bank. We do not show live share prices because we do not have a licensed live price feed.

How to reach us

If you find a mistake, please tell us through the contact page. We check the claim against the source and fix the page. Read the editorial policy for the full process.
