We collect as little as we can.
What we collect
- Nothing for tracking. We use no analytics, advertising or tracking cookies.
- Your theme choice (light or dark) is kept in your own browser's local storage and never sent to us.
- Email list (only if you sign up). If you tick the box and subscribe, we store your email address, the time, the page you signed up on and the exact wording you agreed to, so we can send you new explainers at most once a month once the email starts. We do not sell or share the list. You can unsubscribe at any time, or ask us through the contact page to delete your address completely.
- Contact messages. If you use the contact form we store your name, email address, topic and message so we can reply.
- Market and company data. Interest rates, exchange rates and company figures are requested by our own server or our build process from the U.S. Treasury, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Frankfurter (which republishes European Central Bank rates) and the SEC. Your browser does not contact them, and we send them nothing about you.
Hosting
The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any host, Cloudflare processes technical data such as IP addresses to deliver and protect the site. To limit spam we keep a one-way scrambled version (a hash) of the address a form was sent from, not the address itself.
How long we keep messages
We keep contact messages for up to 12 months and then delete them. You can ask us to delete your message sooner through the contact page.
Your rights
Depending on where you live you may have rights to access, correct or delete your data. Contact us to use them.
